Logan YACCA

Philosophy & Vision

Logan YACCA aims to divert young people from the criminal justice system, Accessibility is a key focus of the program, with a mixture of outreach services, diversionary activities, case management and structured group work delivered in a manner designed to cater for the diverse needs of young people within the Logan community.

Characteristics of the area in which we work

Logan is a young and vibrant city with over half of the population being under 34 years of age. This community is also enriched by its cultural diversity with more than 160 culturally and linguistically divers groups living in the area. Logan YACCA, operating as part of the Youth and Family Service (Logan Inc) Youth Services Team, targets young people who are involved in the criminal justice system or whose circumstances place them at risk of future involvement.

Activities and services that we provide

Logan YACCA provides a range of support options for young people according to need and capacity. Both brief intervention and case management services are available to ensure an appropriate response. Casework frequently addresses issues relating to offending behaviour, bail conditions, family conflict and re-engagement in education. Access is ensured by providing both outreach and centre-based support and by collaborating with other agencies. Young people are supported in the context of their families, schools and the broader community. Logan YACCA also conducts court outreach for young people at the Beenleigh children's court on a fortnightly basis.

Our model of service delivery

The Logan YACCA worker works alongside the YAROS (Youth at Risk Outreach Service) and YPCHAS (Young Peoples Community Health Access Service) staff, as part of an integrated service at YFS called ‘YouthLink'. YouthLink works in a range of settings to deliver group work, such as our learner's license program, health workshops within the community, school holiday programs, community development initiatives and ongoing casework. This service collaborates with other community organisations, schools and government bodies.

Recent Outcomes

• Provision of a weekly outreach court support service to Beenleigh children's court.
• Christmas School holiday BBQ breakfast and activity program
• Delivery of 6 Learner License programs, with a 100% pass rate
• Comprehensive, ongoing case management of up to 15 young people
• ‘Xpose' - an adventure based program designed to enhance team, self esteem, communication and coping skills in a supportive, safe environment.

Recent Community Development projects

Logan YACCA balances community development work with individual support as demonstrated in the outcomes above. All of our projects provide an avenue for young people to contribute to their community and for the public celebration of their contribution.
